The United States is offering a reward of up to $20 million for information about Iran’s nuclear program, including details about facilities, equipment and individuals involved in its development. The announcement comes as Washington continues to make preventing Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons a central objective of its ongoing conflict with Iran.
The U.S. State Department announced the reward on Friday evening through its Rewards for Justice program, asking anyone with relevant information to come forward.
In a statement released Friday evening by the State Department’s Rewards for Justice program, it was said that the personnel information includes those “who are part of the scientific community.”
“In 2025, the International Atomic Energy Agency [IAEA] reported that Iran is enriching uranium to 60 percent purity, a level that constitutes a small technical step up to the 90 percent required for nuclear weapons,” the statement said.
“Iran is the only non-nuclear-weapon state that produces uranium at such a high level of enrichment. Experts assess that this quantity, if further enriched, could be sufficient to produce several nuclear weapons,” the State Department said, according to REL.
Trump Says Preventing Iran From Getting Nuclear Weapons Is a Key War Objective
The announcement comes amid the conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran, which began on February 28, when Washington and Tel Aviv launched military operations against the Islamic Republic.
President Donald Trump has repeatedly said that preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon is the main objective of the war. He has also insisted that American and Israeli airstrikes have destroyed Iran’s nuclear program, presenting the military campaign as a major blow to Tehran’s nuclear capabilities.
However, Iranian officials have consistently rejected accusations that the country is seeking to develop nuclear weapons, maintaining that its nuclear program is intended exclusively for civilian purposes.
Among them is eliminating the country’s ability to conduct military operations, which the administration considers an important part of weakening Tehran’s military capabilities.
Another major priority has been reopening the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important maritime routes.
Rewards for Justice Has Expanded Beyond Counterterrorism
The $20 million offer is being issued through the State Department’s Rewards for Justice program, an initiative originally established in 1984 to help combat international terrorism.
According to the program’s official website, its initial purpose was to encourage people to provide information that could assist U.S. authorities in identifying and bringing terrorists to justice.
Over the years, however, its responsibilities have expanded to cover several other areas considered threats to American national security.
These now include information about foreign interference in U.S. elections, malicious cyber activities and North Korea-related threats.
The latest announcement concerning Iran reflects that broader mission, with Washington seeking information that could provide further insight into the country’s nuclear infrastructure, technical capabilities and the people involved in its development.
