The truth came out in the most unexpected way…
Miley Cyrus opened up about her marriage to Liam Hemsworth in a previous interview, revealing she kept a secret from him for almost a decade.
The now-32-year-old singer was a teenager when she met Liam, now 34, when they both starred in the romance drama, The Last Song, back in 2010.
It was Liam’s international break out role, after appearing on the Aussie soap opera Neighbours, meanwhile Miley was already a household name for playing the titular character in the Disney Channel series Hannah Montana.
The pair tied the knot in 2018, but ended up parting ways less than a year later as a representative said they wanted to ‘focus on themselves and careers’.
Looking back at the years before their wedding, during the early days of their relationship, Miley now confessed that she wasn’t entirely truthful with Liam about her virginity.
During an interview with Alex Cooper on her Call Her Daddy podcast, the ‘Flowers’ singer explained she was ‘attracted to girls way before [she] was ever attracted to guys’.
“I was like 11 or 12, my friends were starting to tell me what they were doing with guys and I didn’t really understand it ― so I got most of my girlfriends to hook up with me,” she revealed.
“The first time I ever hooked up with anyone was with a girl — two of them.”
Miley also noted that these first hookups went ‘past first base’ but that she ‘didn’t go all the way with a dude’ until she was 16 years old.
“But I ended up marrying the guy, so that’s pretty crazy,” she added.
Miley told Alex that Liam was in fact the first guy she’d ever slept with, although this was something she didn’t admit to at the time.
As for the reason why, Miley confessed that she was worried the Hunger Games actor may have thought she was a ‘loser’ for not having doing it with someone before, so she decided to tell him that she’d already lost her virginity to someone else.
“I couldn’t think of anyone so I just made somebody up that I knew but we’d never actually had sex before,” she said.
She also kept this tidbit to herself for nearly 10 years and only told Liam when one of his mates ended up marrying the man she claimed to have shared her first sexual experience with.
“So then [Liam] was like, ‘Now my friend is marrying someone you’ve hooked up with,'” Cyrus recalled. “So then ― when I was like 24 ― I had to say that I lied when I was 16.”
