Girl, 5, sells bracelets to raise money for her ‘name change’ — even persuaded parents with a letter

The kid’s parents were not serious about her super random request and did not think about it until she came home with $150.

If there were a challenge on the extent a child may go to get their parents to oblige their whims, this 5-year-old girl would be declared the victor. Mom, Bri, who runs a now-private TikTok page @bri_mom3, took the opportunity to share her daughter’s bizarre decision to change her name during Women’s History Month. The little schoolgoing girl was hung up on renaming herself to Charlotte from Charlie, a name her father had given her. While many of us may like a chance to alter our names, Bri’s daughter was adamant about it and wrote a persuasive letter to her parents to convince them, per BoredPanda

Clueless about it, Bri decided to speak up about it on the internet. She recognized it as an amazing way to mark the historical month for women, sharing the story of her daughter, “who’s gonna make history.” At only five years old, Charlie Paige went down the rabbit hole and discovered all that was needed to be one to change her name.

When her parents were not convinced, she took matters into her own hands. “My little lady’s named Charlie Paige. I love her name, we chose it, she looked like Charlie, she is just my Charlie girl,” the mother expressed.

However, Charlie’s head was just not to be meddled with. She researched that a person would have to file in the court, pay $200, and publish the name with the agreement of both parents. Since her parents were not ready, she began selling friendship bracelets. Initially, her mother did not make much of it.

Bri was stunned when she found that Charlie had collected $80 in a single day of selling those bands. “I mean, they are friendship bracelets and I thought she’s selling them for a dollar or something,” the mom added.

At this point, the parents were forced to take her request seriously. Meanwhile, Charlie continued to sell bracelets to fund her name change and collected a total of $150. Bri later revealed her daughter even made her grandpa make her a backpack with ‘Charlotte’ printed on it. In a follow-up, the mom updated that her daughter had gone by her chosen name for a whole year.

“She said she wrote me an opinion piece where Charlotte is a better name than Charlie.”  The videos went viral on TikTok, reaching over 4 million views and kickstarting a mini-campaign for Charlie’s name change.

Noting the massive interest, Bri posted a third video where she read out her daughter’s infamous letter. “Dear mommy and daddy, I like it better than Charlie, Charlotte is a girl’s name and it’s the prettiest name ever,” the letter began. She persuaded them that Charlotte is her passion, made her feel pretty, creative, loved and strong, and independent.

Finally, her mom was onboard with the kid’s decision, but her dad was yet to be convinced. She asked him if he could do it for her, even though he named her Charlie at birth. Charlotte or Charlie, this little girl is going places with that determination.
